If
you're an ardent sports fan or an active sportsperson, Hay
River is the ideal spot for you! We have an absolutely packed
agenda of sports activities throughout June, July and August
in which you're bound to find something exactly to your liking,
whether to watch and cheer at or something you can participate
in yourself.

If
you love golf, we urge you to play in one of the many
tournaments scheduled for the summer - and fall. Or just take
a lovely day and spend it putting that ball around the nine-hole
course set along the banks of the Hay and on forested
slopes. A comfortable and charming Club provides the perfect
place to relax after your game. [see
Events Calendar]
Keen on baseball? Well, there are plenty of tournaments all
summer long, both slo pitch and fastball played on
our three fields, with plenty of room for spectators. [see
Events Calendar]
Like the thrill of roaring engines and drivers navigating
tight turns? Then pop over to the Hay
River Speedway (directions from just about anybody,
and of course, our VIC) and take in some of the regular races
which take place every second Friday evening through the summer.
Racing is in two classes: Stock Car and Street Stock Car.
[see Events
Calendar]
By the way, Hay River has a tennis court, uniquely
perched atop a water reservoir in a residential district,
so limber up your arm and racquet for a game or two.
Jet boats
turn you on? Then be sure to pick yourself a good viewing
spot, because the water speed demons will be showing their
stuff. Chances for some really great photos during these races,
so be sure you have lots of film. [see
Events Calendar]

Got
a bike you love to pedal? Join the Annual Tour de Hay,
scheduled for ?? [see
Events Calendar] and test your endurance with a race to
the Border and back!
If you are in our community in June you'll enjoy events
in the NWT Track and Field Championships, held on the
full-regulation sized track at Diamond Jenness Secondary
School (that's the big, purple building right downtown)
[see Events
Calendar]. This event brings as many as 600 athletes from
to Hay River for competition in all types of track and field
events from 100 m run to shot put to high jump and javelin.
Competitors range in age from 6 or 7 years to adults in their
prime. Special opening and closing ceremonies also highlight
this event, which sees the largest in flux of visitors at
one time to the town and brings out an astounding number of
volunteers who help make it such a success each year.
The competitors will enjoy your added cheers for their
endeavours - and you will likely see some very fine performances
and perhaps some new records made.
For the latest in events information see the Events
Calendar.
