I am sorry l was unable to attend the old school reunion. I attended the Indian/federal day school from 1949 to 1957.
The last time l was in Hay River was in 1986 so l'm sure there are a lot of changes. If there are anyone from back in those days l would apreciate hearing from you.

Our grandson now lives in Hay River. This site has been great. We can see a little of what the town and surrounding areas are like. I often check the time difference and what the weather is like. Tomorrow is the start of winter for us as you begin summer. We live in Australia's most southern state, the island of Tasmania. So we are literally at opposite ends of the globe. Thank goodness for emails etc. We get photos of our grandson, and regular updates on his progress. We hope to visit as soon as possible.

Hi to all you Hay River-ites. I am looking for a past friend if anyone can help me. We were in grade 9 together, then both went to work as telephone operators at CNT. Her name was Margot Mostart and her dad helped us get our jobs. I think about her a lot over the years, and was wondering if anyone can help me out. Our supervisor's name was Helen, and then Dodo Whitlock took over after she left. Please send me any news you have. Thanks and miss you all. Brenda Enns-Lemire-Dersch

I was thinking of Hay River and had to go and do an online
visit of Hay River. Lived there in 1973-74 and worked at the-then CNT (Canadian National Telecommunications) offices in old Hay River as a Telephone Operator. Dodie was my boss and I believe she is still in H.R. Also worked the front desk @ the Ptarmigan Inn and it's still there. Met awesome people - Greg Smith from Guelph, ON who I think is still there, settled down and married. He worked on telephone linesrepairs etc. Want to go visit one more time as my memories of H.R. are just awesome. I remember a purple High School I believe, that was quite new when I was there. Sent postcards of it back to MB where I lived at the time. Drank at the Back Eddy (still there)and Caribou Mtn. Lodge??? Have some great pics. of people I met that are likely not in HR anymore, but no doubt some stayed. Take care one and all. Just wanted to say hi to everyone. You have a great little town and I AM coming back....Hugs, Bonny

Just wondering if there is anyone to be able to converse over the net with, thinking would be nice to know and or be able to keep in touch with. Hi, my nane is Steve. I was in Hay River in Aug. of 1972. We
met some great folks there. We camped in the public camp grounds for a few days before traveling to Wood Buffalo Nat. Park. We also met some nice people that ran a youth hostle and fed us caribou stew and showed movies. I wonder if they're still around? I would like to get an embroided patch and sticker of a polar bear. Can anyone help me? I am sure everything has changed alot since I was there. Hope to return some day. I loved it up there.

I might be moving back to the old home town if I score the janitor job available there. Then again, I'll severely miss YK with McDonald's, KFC, A&W, Tim Horton's and all the shopping malls. Uh oh, I better reconsider my options. LOL!

Hello, I lived in Hay River quite a few years ago and worked
at your hospital. There were many young people there and I had a great time. I never forgot the wonderful colors of the sky in the evening. The Back Eddy had great food and the school was the best color in the world...purple! The falls were the best and the people were too. You people who live there now I am envious of you! What I would give to live where you do. Enjoy what you have because there is no where in the world as awesome as your town..Hello to Linda Carmen and JD Goodzeck. Betty-Anne (Tiessen) Georgeson

Hello everyone! I've just found out that I may be the hub's newest reporter. I'm a little nervous, as I've never been any farther north than Whistler, and I've lived in the downtown core of Vancouver my whole life. I'd be interested in hearing from a few locals just to get a sense of the town and the folks there. I'm really excited to see what Hay River's all about!

I don't want something too expensive and nothing spectacular.Just a quiet little cabin in the woods.

My name is Raven. I am a almost 13 year old girl. My mom
applied for a job in Hay River and we might move down there. I just have a few questions;
1. What are the schools like?
2.Are there a lot of people close to my age?
3.How cold does it get?
4.Are the summers warm?
I would apreciate it if anyone could answer these questions.
Thank-you! :)

CONGRATULATONS to the GRAD CLASS,you all looked very nice and i hear the grad was very nice,to the people who won the awards i congratulate you, the awards were a little one sided i hear that is not fair, they should be spread out ,one person shouldn't get them all or is it because the parents are teachers and vice princepals???anyway to the ones who never got an award and to the ones who did you done a great job and should be so proud of yourself, you are our future, god bless and good luck to you all.

I believe next year will be the sixtyth anniversary (1949 - 2009) of the opening of the Hay River Indian Day/Federal Day/Camsell School on Vale Island. Some of us have been talking of holding a school reunion of all students/teachers that attended this school, 1949 to 1963 or until it closed. Suggested time would be about this time next year. Interested in working on organizing this gathering? Have any questions, comments or ideas? Sufficient interest will ensure a successful reunion. Contact Ron Courtoreille.
